Before you run o to another community to shop, consider the following:
Studies show that for every dollar you spend with a locally owned business, 63 cents remains in the
community—with the chain it is 43 cents and zero if the money was spent in another community.
Locally owned businesses spend much more in the community for their operating costs (bookkeeping,
legal, advertising, etc.) than a national chain using centralized services in some other location.
Large national chains purchase fewer goods locally than the locally owned businesses.
A recent study showed that for every square foot occupied by a local business, the economic impact
was $179 to the community; for a chain store it was $105.
When you spend locally it not only helps your neighbor, it makes good economic “cents”—
